“Good design doesn’t announce itself. It simply feels like it was always meant to be there.”

Design-Led

Every project starts with how a room is actually lived in, not a mood board. We draw, revise, and draw again before a single wall comes down.

Built to Stay

We choose materials and forms that age well — quarter-sawn woods, honed stone, and hardware that will still look right in twenty years.

We are not in pursuit of admiration.
We are in pursuit of quiet: the kind that only comes when a room is entirely resolved.
The unnamed rooms are often where a house reveals itself.
How We Work

Three Stages, One Standard

I. Discover

Understand the house

We start in your home, not a showroom — learning how the space is used before we suggest how it should change.

II. Design

Draw before we build

Full drawings, material boards, and a fixed scope are settled before construction begins. No surprises mid-build.

III. Build

Execute to the line

Our crews and trusted trade partners build to the drawing, with regular walkthroughs until the last detail is right.

What Discover Determines

Every Project Has a Shape

Every project falls into one of three shapes. See which one sounds like yours.

Simple
Involved
Refresh

Same Layout, New Life

Everything you'd touch or look at is new — nothing structural changes.

  • Cabinets replaced or refaced in place
  • New countertops, backsplash, hardware
  • Paint and flooring throughout
  • Lighting fixtures swapped, same locations
Sounds like your project if: you like where everything is — you just want it to look and feel entirely different.
Full Remodel

New Throughout, Same Footprint

Fixtures and finishes are entirely new — plumbing and electrical stay where they are.

  • Everything included in Refresh
  • Plumbing & electrical fixtures replaced, same locations
  • New appliances and updated lighting plan
  • Windows/doors replaced in existing openings
Sounds like your project if: the layout works, but every surface and fixture needs to be new.
Reconfigured

The Layout Itself Changes

Walls move, plumbing relocates — the space is redesigned, not just refinished.

  • Everything included in Full Remodel
  • Walls removed or relocated
  • Plumbing/electrical rough-ins moved
  • Possible footprint expansion
Sounds like your project if: the room doesn't work no matter what finishes go in it — the layout has to change.

James Greer, founder of Timberhaus Studio, a Kansas City design-build remodeling studio
The Studio

James Greer

Founder & Owner

James Greer has spent the last twenty-two years working as an installer, with hands-on experience across nearly every part of a home — kitchens and bathrooms, roofing, siding, and everything in between. That breadth is exactly why he started Timberhaus Studio: after two decades building other people’s plans, he wanted the chance to see his own vision through, from start to finish.

It’s also how he still runs every project today. James stays hands-on through each phase, building out every detail himself until it matches the picture he started with — not just signing off on someone else’s work from a distance.

He lives in the Kansas City area with his wife and their two kids, and when he’s not on a job site, you’ll usually still find him in his woodshop — carpentry has been a lifelong pull for him, and it shows in the kind of detail work he brings to every project.

“Built the Way We’d Build Our Own.”
After twenty-two years building other people’s visions, James started Timberhaus to build his own. That’s the standard every client’s project gets today.
